Scholarships are now open for the 2018 Season

OURFC Rugby Scholarships

Since it's inception in 2011, 44 young men and women have been awarded OURFC Rugby Scholarships.

Applications are now welcomed for the 2018 Scholarships.

Each scholarship holder receives funding towards fees and/or accommodation (max of $2,000), as well as a being assigned an ‘academic mentor’ to assist them achieve the balance required between academic and sporting commitments (e.g., time management, study plans, specialised tutoring, etc) so that they can achieve in both areas.

University of Otago Scholarships

In addition, this year for the first time the University has a University of Otago Alumni in America Inc. Rugby Performance Entrance Scholarship. These are 3 year scholarships, with a significantly higher monetary value.

Important Note

We encourage to apply for both scholarships. But please note that an OURFC scholarship may not be held concurrently with a University of Otago Alumni in America Inc. Rugby Performance Entrance Scholarship or with a University of Otago Performance and Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship.

Why play for the Otago University Rugby Football Club?

OURFC has had 68 All Blacks, 44 first doning the jersey while at our club. This more than any other club in New Zealand. We have had 13 Black Ferns and over 500 Otago representatives. Our club has won the Dunedin Metropolitian Club Premier Competition 51 times, almost twice as many as the next nearest Dunedin Metropolitian Club, and 16 Senior Womens Championships. As well as this we have won numerous Colts Championships. We are the current holder of the Ainge Shield, which is awarded to the best performing club in Dunedin. We have held this trophy for the last six years.

OURFC is interested to know current High School First XV players and Club Rugby Players that intend to study at Otago University in 2018. OURFC extends an open invitation to all new students at Otago University; we offer rugby for men and women in the Colts, Premier 2 and Premier 1 grades.

OURFC has an unsurpassed record of achievement in Otago and New Zealand rugby and is the ideal club in Dunedin for a university student to play his/her rugby. The Club provides a pathway to provincial and national representative teams and has a proud tradition of excellence both on and off the rugby field. Only OURFC players are eligible for selection in NZ Universities Teams. NZ Universities tour regularly, both within NZ and overseas.

OURFC is well aware of the study demands placed on a student during the academic year and training times are scheduled to take into account lecture and tutorial times. The Club also has an academic mentoring programme to assist players achieve the balance required between academic and sporting commitments (eg. time management, study plans, specialised tutoring, etc) so that players can achieve in both disciplines.
