Training
We train on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm on the University Oval pitches. Our training sessions are a great way to improve your fitness, skills, and rugby knowledge. We also have regular social events to help you get to know your teammates and build camaraderie.
Competition
We compete in the ORFU Metropolitan Senior Competition, which is the premier women's rugby competition in Otago. We are a competitive team and always strive to be the best we can be.
History and Leadership
The University of Otago Rugby Union Women's Team has a proud history of developing players who go on to represent New Zealand. We have had multiple Black Ferns players in our ranks, with recent stars including Amy Du Plessis, Rosie Kelly, and Maia Joseph. Their success and skill demonstrate the high level of talent within our program.
We are also fortunate to have experienced leadership within our coaching staff. Former Black Ferns captain Helen Littleworth is a former head coach who now serves as an assistant/skills coach, providing invaluable guidance and expertise to our players. Additionally, ex-Otago Spirit Captain Julia Gorinski leads the team as Head Coach, bringing a wealth of experience and strategic insight. Their involvement underscores our commitment to developing our players and competing at the highest level.
